Who has 2 or 3 hours of extra time to clean their home? Â Nobody that’s who. Whether we are stay at home moms or work outside the home – we all lead busy lives. With getting ourselves ready to go to work and our kids ready for school, cooking meals, toting kids to soccer practice, who has any time to clean? Â You do. I came up with the busy person’s guide to a company ready home in under 20 minutes. Â This guide consists of just 8 tips for getting your home ready for company in 20 minutes or less.
The Busy Person’s Guide to a Company Ready Home in 20 Minutes
- Smell the Roses. Make your house smell good. Â This is as simple as lighting your favorite candle. Get that scent permeating through the air before your company arrives.
- Clutter Monster. Pick up clutter. Papers and magazines on the floor? Throw them out or put them in a basket. Put all your children’s toys in a bin, basket or toy box. Get dirty clothes into a laundry basket instead and off the floor. The goal is to have nothing on the floor but carpet.
- Trash it. Take the trash out. Empty the kitchen trash can, the bathroom trash bins and empty any diaper pails.
- Dust Be Gone. No need for furniture polish now, just take a feather duster and go over only the surfaces that your guests will see. Â This isn’t the time to dust the top of the cabinets or your ceiling fan.
- Wipe Windows. Using a microfiber cloth, go over any fingerprints on glass doors or bathroom mirrors.
- Va Va Vacuum. Take out the vacuum and vacuum the floors quickly. Â All the floors: kitchen, living room, dining room etc. Remember only the areas that your guests will see. Don’t waste time vacuuming your bedroom or any area where your guests won’t be going. And do not waste time using a broom. Plug in the vacuum and get going.
- Sink or swim. Clean your kitchen sink. Spray it down and wipe it out. No need to scour or deep clean the sink now. Just a quick wipe will do. Take a few seconds and wipe out the bathroom sink guests will use.
- Wipe the Seat. Clean your toilet bowl. Make sure there is a clean hand towel and toilet paper.
How easy is that? Now sit back and let your guests think you taught Martha Stewart how it’s done!
